On January 30, 2019 I had "Whole Gland Prostate Cryoablation" Performed by my Urologist/Oncologist, Dr. Peter Hinds, at the Lakeland Regional Hospital in Lakeland Fl

I will begin with my background and treatment for last 15 years after which I will tell you all of my surprises post surgery and the unbelievable results I am experiencing after only 4 months.

I am 77 years old now.  15 years ago I began having difficulty urinating and simply assumed all old guys have this.   Super Beta Prostate seemed to help a little so I took it for years and my family physician said not to worry as my PSA went from 4.5 to 9 then to 12.5.  12.5 was about 5 years ago so I had biopsy done and had 6.0 Gleason non aggressive.  Oncologist in RI told me not to worry, that I would die from something else.   To relieve difficulty in urinating I had a TURP operation done 4 years ago.   I had relief for one month then back to same as before operation.  Last PSA taken in RI was 18.5.

I moved to Lakeland FL in June 2018 . . . Fantastic Healthcare here in Retirement City.   PSA went to 24.5 and Dr Hinds performed another biopsy.  Still 6.0, non-aggressive and contained to gland.   He recommended Cryofreeze of whole gland because PSA indicated cancer would likely spread if not killed.

"Whole Gland Prostate Cryoablation" leaves 95% of patients impotent and in addition you to have this procedure you must have small to medium Prostate, cancer confined to gland, both of which I had and at 77 I accepted the likelihood of Impotency.

When I saw the Dr following the operation on 30 January he told me I would get PSA in 3 months.   I asked what it should be and he told me "It will be 0.4" When I got PSA in early May it was 0.4.

There were several side effects I did not expect to be as bad as they were that Dr. did not tell me about.  On second day following the operation swelling of the scrotum and penis were horrendous . . Huge and ugly and Penis shrinkage right after surgery was drastic, perhaps as much as 1/3 shrinkage.

Now the good part of my surgery results.   Swelling was gone in 2 weeks,  Shrinkage completely reversed in 4 months.   Although it can take as long as 2 years, if ever, to achieve an erection I am starting to feel sensations that indicate that nerve endings may be regenerating.  That may take time to get full results.

The freezing causes damage to surrounding intestines and colon plus the pincher nerve is damaged so I needed to always be close to a toilet for about 8 weeks and now at 4 months that has all cleared up and back to normal.  I know some men have lots and very bad leakage but again I was lucky that I only wore light pads for 1 week and never leaked again.

In addition to being rid of my Prostate Cancer I am now Urinating like a teen age boy.  I was both surprised and amazed after about 4 weeks to have my stream recovered back to the way it was 15 years ago.

I can truly say that even not being able to achieve an erection I am 98% back to normal and the rest I will wait and see.

Dr. Hinds is special and if this procedure is something that might work for you and you are in the Lakeland FL area he is the one to use.
