Hi everyone 👋

For many people living with chronic pain, morphine or other opioid-based treatments can offer real relief, a way to finally breathe, move, or sleep without being constantly overwhelmed by pain.

But it’s rarely as simple as just “taking a pill.” The experience of being on morphine is often complex: it can be a lifeline, a last resort, a source of comfort, or even a source of stress, sometimes all at once.

So today, we wanted to open up a space to talk honestly about what it’s really like.

💭 For you to reflect on:

  • How has morphine (or another opioid) changed your daily life?
  • What kind of impact has it had on your independence, routines, or mental health?
  • Have you experienced side effects, and what’s helped you manage them?
  • How do you stay organized with your treatment and communicate with your doctor about what’s working and what isn’t?

Whether you're currently taking morphine, have used it in the past, or are considering it as a next step, your insights could really help someone else feel less alone in their journey 💛

Take care,
Somya from the Carenity team 🌼

I have taken morphine right after my back surgery with c mind blowing pain. Because my neurosurgeon went to town during my spinal fusion surgery. I have incredibly nerve damage and nerve dysfunction. I’m losing my teeth because I’m on about 14 medication‘s so this is the worst feeling I’ve had in my life, but I never I wish my never surgeon nothing but pain and penniless, and he rots in hell, they just won’t give you more then because you think it’s the next step it’s not how it works. I have seen so many doctors. I’ve been left out lied Dude made up stuff they just can’t say I don’t know what to write a novel far as opiates. If you ask for money, you’re just a drug addict. all doctors do you have the same way and will not treat us in front of Pain any differently ever

For many years I would only take aspirin, Tylenol or Aleve for pain after having a bad experience with something that my orthopedic doctor prescribed prior to shoulder surgery. I don't remember what it was, but blacked out one evening and do not recall about 8 hours of my existence. However, when experiencing a collapsed lung and chest tube, they gave me Morphine in the hospital (3 chest tubes, 3 occasions). Since the first chest tube and when the doctors asked if I needed any pain meds, I would always say that if its not Morphine, I didn't want it.
Now after several other chronic issues including peripheral diabetic neuropathy, degenerative arthritis of the spine and recurring pleural effusions to name a few, I now take low doses of Codeine every night before bed. Take another earlier if the pain is not manageable. The doctors have increased (doubled) the dosage of the Codeine once, and I will ask that they give me the Morphine next, since I don't want to take the Codeine every 4 hours or so, with ever increasing doses.
