@nueloyebade‍

I think you named many of the great ways: finding support from family and friends, educating those closest to you about your condition, triggers, and how you cope.

Psychiatry for medications and counseling for being able to talk it out and gain more mental support and stability that the medications will not do.

PS. what is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)?

Hi, I am currently once again seeing a therapist and psychiatrist to treat my depression/BPD. And joining this site is my attempt to expand my support group. But my main concern is how to cope in the immediate way, not so much strategize for long term.

For example, sometimes a get a "storm" or "wave" of intense emotions that involves crying, racing thoughts, an urgency to seek relief (I no longer self harm). It is hard to snap myself out of these bouts. I usually just curl into an infant position, and cry until my eyes are swollen and my throat hurts. Does anyone have any tips for coping with this type of storm? Anything to snap my body and brain out of the loop its in, or any positive way...that does not involve a lot of effort....to get relief?

@skyriro Hey, not sure if this is what you're looking for, but when I'm having an emotional wave I try to go into a dark space or room and sit down, close my eyes and take long, slow and deep breathes. It helps me ground myself and calm down. Or I like to get outside and just walk. It doesn't matter where or how long, I just go outside and walk until I feel like stopping. Sometimes just getting out of my usually space helps me clear my head and emotions.
