Hey everyone, I've got UC, and I'm on Humira and Xeljanz so I guess I'm one of the "at risk" for catching this mess. I'm starting to get worried with the Coronavirus panic. My grandkids' school is closed and my daughter works in a "critical" industry so she can't stay home, so I've agreed to watch them for her. Should I stop taking my medications if they're putting me at risk? I don't want me or my grandkids to get sick. Haven't been able to get through to my doctor yet. Have any of you had any advice from yours?

Thanks.

Actually I've had the same issue my doctor hasn't responded yet either and I am also on humira, so all I can do is stay home and isolated... I guess 😩

I am on Humira as well. I worked in a hospital that already had 2 patients they were testing for the virus. I was having panic attacks when I would have to go to work. I ended up having to quit a job I absolutely loved. They do not know enough about the virus to keep us on the front lines safe. My health has been declining so my husband and I were preparing for my exit anyway however the panic attacks were getting worse and worse.

My doctor told me not to stop my medication. I suggest you not stop meds until talking to your doctor. Some drugs cannot be restarted after you discontinue them because your body builds antibodies to the medication.

Hello everyone,

@Memelynn Thank you for your excellent advice! If you all haven't seen yet, we published an article last week looking at the coronavirus in the context of chronic illness and trying to summarize the advice that is out there. I'll link it below:

Coronavirus and chronic illness

Take care,

Courtney

@Memelynn Wow I'm so sorry you went through that. That must have been so scary for you!

I was told by my medical team not to go near the hospital, as I had several tests pending. The funny thing that I came across the other day when I was reading articles was that COVID-19, when it gets complicated, leads to an exaggerated autoimmune response in the lungs. The doctor in the article recommended treating these cases with cortisone, which is often prescribed for UC. I wonder if that may help us if we were to catch it...

But ultimately the best thing for now to follow the  stay-at-home orders and the CDC advice until we flatten the curve. I saw that France extended their quarantine until mid-May and the UK isn't ready to end theirs yet, so I guess we may be inside for a while. We can do this though if we stick together!

Hi everyone, I haven't been on here in a while. How are you all? Are you all going back to work and things now that everything is starting to open again? Or are you staying home? I'm a little worried about this  and I'm trying to see with my company if I can stay working from home a little longer to see how this all plays out. What are you all doing?
