I was just diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and was wondering if it is even helpful to keep using my machine, since it goes not help my sleep. I wake up constantly to the noise of the machine. I think I slept better before the apnea diagnosis. When I mention this to my sleep dr at apptmnts she wants me to do a another sleep study, which I’m never doing again. I have severe sleep apnea. Thank you Bea Ross

Hello BeaRoss, thank you for opening this discussion. I'm sorry to hear your CPAP isn't helping. Let me tag some other members who can possibly share their advice with you.

Hello everyone, how are you doing? What do you all think of Bea's situation? Have you ever found that your sleep apnea machine just doesn't help? What did you do about it? What would you do in Bea's situation?

I have struggled with my diagnosis and my machine for years. My sleep has gotten so bad that I dug out my machine after giving up on it a few years ago. The first night i tried it i was amazed that i could get through a few hours with it and i felt a little better. The second night was horrible! I knew it was loud but didn't know why until I discovered a hole in the mask. I got a memory foam mask and the next night was amazing! Then last night was awful again. I have an appointment with a specialist on Thursday and I'm praying for help.

I was fortunate that I noticed an improvement from day 1.  How many nights have you used your machine?  I've often heard it can take several weeks before you notice a difference and get used to it.  Perhaps it is making a difference your body notices but you haven't improved enough to notice yet.  You might want to compile a list of discussion topics prior to your appointment and listen with an open mind when your doctor explains your treatment plan and the benefits for you.

Whenever I was diagnosed. It took me about 6 months to get use to everything.  I was waking up in the middle of the night.  And it would be running and my mask would be on my pillow.   This was 30 + years ago.  I to have severe apnea.  All I can say is keep trying.  You will get used to it.  Best of luck.

What about Inspire Innovation sleep apnea device. I believe it is a device implanted into your chest. I have both obstructive & central sleep apnea & not sure if the implant will work. My e-mail is cntylady@live.com if anyone knows anything about this.

Hello all -

I love my ResMed CPAP machine.  I just got a new full face mask which is working well.   I am supposed to do an at-home sleep study. Still trying to set it up.   I don't have or use a smartphone and the company told me that I have to use a smartphone to do my sleep test.   I tried to set up the program for the at-home test on my laptop - still not working.

Well -  enough complaining about that.   Bea -  what type of mask are you wearing?  There are numerous types of them.  Check with your sleep doctor to see if the mask that you are using is the best one for you.

Good luck...
