I have MS and have urine retention, self cathing 4 times a day.  I have had many UTI’s within the past five years resulting in ESBL. I have been on Macrobid 100mg daily (only medicine sensitive to) for past 1 1/2 years. Resulting in being infection free. When advised to stop medication 5 months ago, I had another UTI within 2 weeks of stopping the Macrobid. I was restarted on Macrobid soon after.  At my doctor visit last week, My doctor advised that the Macrobid should be stopped. Documentation shows that long term use could cause serious lung infections.  What if any options are there for me?

Good advisor

Hello @LindaKThomas ,

Thanks for starting a new conversation. Members living with MS, do any of you have similar experiences that you could share?

Thanks,

Lee

@Lee__R I can’t believe I am the only one living with MS with frequent UTI’s resulting in ESBL. I can’t be on Macrobid used as suppression much longer. Can anyone direct me as to what to do next?
