Hi there

My partner has multiple myeloma. I still don't quite understand how I can best support him. I hate to always ask him "how can I help" because it feels like I am being more annoying than supportive. I can see when he is in pain, but I'm not sure what to do. I have been reading things online but its not the same as hearing from someone actually living with it.

Thanks in advance!

How can your partner support you through MM? What do you wish they would ask you? What would you tell them is the most helpful thing action they can do?

Please share and give @Jessie1564 some perspective for her situation.

Take care,

@LizziB

For me personally, the mental load is heavy. I have a therapist, but sometimes I want to share with my partner as well but I hesitate because I know cancer talk is never fun for the other person. What we do, is when I (or my partner) know that we want want to talk about something MM related, we schedule a time to sit down and talk. This allows for each of us to get mentally ready to focus on some hard discussions. I found that this works best, rather than just talking about it all the time randomly. We are both able to show up, mentally prepared, sometimes with a list. This has allowed us to really get through discussions together and be supportive instead of blindsided.

Good luck, its a difficult journey, but I know you will manage!
