hi guys I’m new to this and I wanted to know if anyone else has been experiencing hair loss and if there was anything that helped? My doctors didn’t have much to offer me.  I was diagnosed with lupus when I was 10 years old, I am now 22.

@Damartinez16‍ it may be caused by the actual lupus medication. What medication are you on? Is your lupus under control? Have you tried looking into leaky gut and attacking the systemic disease through that? Look into the medication and see if that has such side-effect... if it does look to leaky guy and eating a healthy diet for lupus and see if you can keep flares under control. Always talk to your doctor though.

@Damartinez16 , Hello...I was Dx with, Discoid Lupus 8 years ago, my scalp/hair was the 1st to be affected. My Derm administered, steroid injections into my scalp and prescribed a medication by the name of Plaqanel( double check spelling). The pills promoted hair growth, but only after consistently taking them for, 4 months. I stopped taking them, I didn't like the way they made me feel, however everyone's different. I received a few scalp injections of steroids, however There are side effects to everything, I decided to stop these as well. I've had to adjust the hair styles, I normally would wear as a result and it's a great time in this century, were we have so many options for our hair, ( hair exstention, wigs, etc.), especially woman. Good luck to you during your Journey.

- Von

I have had lupus for more than 32 years. I go through times when my hair is long and full. And when I have  flares  it starts to come out.  When I started taking  benlysta it came out by the hands full...

The only thing I have ever found that really helps is a shampoo and conditioner from Nioxin.  It helps take the medication and other things out of the hair follicles and helps open up the follicles on scalp. You can find it on Groupon . Hope this helps...

@Caprice‍ excellent advice! I love Nioxin also.

I also agree that the medication can make it happen.

@VonnyMom‍ did Plaqanel and the steroid injections work successfully? After you stopped did the benefits remain or is it something that must be continued?

Yes, the steroid injections/pills did promote hair grow, however not as full or thick as my hair was before the hair loss, but after I stopped the injections as well as the pills, most of the hair that grew back, fell out. I will say that the hair that grew back was very fine, such as baby hair. Hope this answers your question.

@Damartinez16‍ after you got your lupus under control and treatment, did you continue to experience hair loss or did the hair loss reverse itself? Did you have discoid lesions?
