Hello everyone,

How are you doing?

Biotherapies (Enbrel, Humira, Remicade, Simponi...) are treatments that lead to a decline in immune response (immunosuppressants).
Patients who use these treatments are therefore at a higher risk of complications due to the COVID-19 infection.

Are you currently undergoing biotherapy and have an autoimmune disease (ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid polyarthritis, chronic inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis...)? Then this discussion is for you!

Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have, or to share information on biotherapies in the context of the pandemic!

If you have been infected with COVID-19, do not hesitate to share your story.

If you haven't seen already, here is our comprehensive article on the coronavirus and chronic illness where you will find a lot of useful information: Coronavirus and Chronic Illness

Take care,

Courtney

@Courtney_J Hi Ya'll, I'm taking Cosentyx  (biologic) for my AS. I haven't had any reaction at all, not even in the beginning of my treatment. I take a real concoction of drugs (20 different drugs per day) more at weekends.

Maybe my biologic has given me some immunity from the COVID-19 virus? I don't know.  Time will tell? I hope y'all are staying safe and sane! <3

Hi @Courtney_J‍

I'm on Enbrel injections, I thought about maybe stop the treatment during the crisis to limit the risk but it wasn't a good idea. So far, I can't complain about any real negative impact. I'm staying at home with my wife. She goes to the store for the both of us and I try to stay busy doing some yard and house works. I miss seeing our friends or just going for a walk but it's a small price to stay healthy... Hope everyone is safe here!

I don't have any problem with my treatment for the moment but my doctor told me to avoid any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. So dealing with pain is a bit more complicated...  Did someone got the same recommendation? I don't know if it is totally forbidden or if I could take some pills if I stay at home emoticon dont-know

@copa20 Same, no problem getting my meds, but my doctor also mentioned NSAIDs. I think there was a study in Europe that found that ibuprofen and others may aggravate the virus, so I think out of precaution our docs want us to take acetominophen instead. I think the CDC hasn't found conclusive evidence that they do worsen it, but better safe than sorry, right? Hope you all are ok and doing well!

@jasmine1092 I read the same thing about ibuprofen. The last article I saw said that Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs can help to relieve certains symptoms if paracetamol doesn't work. But long-term use of NSAIDs has been linked to higher rates of heart attack, heart failure, stroke, acute respiratory so it obviously increases the risk.

Hey all
My routine hasn't changed a bit. I'm staying at home now not because I want so but because I need so.
And another thing that has changed is that masks are a new must-have accessory in everybody's bag.. At first I didn't think that there will be such a need in them so I didn't bother to buy more. That was a mistake. So one day I ordered a whole pack of [link removed by Moderator for violation of community standards] so that I could carry with me wherever I go at least 2 of them, just in case.
