Did your doctor take your endometriosis pain seriously?

@Jujubeans‍ Hello Jujubeans, thank you both for creating this discussion. I'm sorry to hear that you don't feel like you were taken seriously by your doctors. Let me tag some other members who can also weigh in on this topic.

Hi members, I hope you don't mind that I've tagged you. How has your experience been with your doctors? Do you feel that your doctor took you seriously? Did he or she really listen to you? Were you misdiagnosed or diagnosed late because of it? Feel free to share here!

I took a long time for me to get a diagnosis tool. My gyno originally thought I had a hormonal imbalance or just a bad period. We switched birth controls several times and she prescribed some higher dose NSAIDS, but it did nothing. Finally after several visits, a really horrible flare and my breaking down in tears in her office trying to describe the pain, she finally referred me to a specialist. I had some trouble getting some people in my family to understand what I was going through as well, they thought I was just being dramatic. It is SO FRUSTRATING not being listened to or taken seriously by doctors. 

@Jujubeans I was lucky and my gyno was familiar with endometriosis and had had other patients who had it. So she was willing to do the right exams to get me a diagnosis, but I'm more than aware that this isn't the case for everyone. I think doctors could stand to be better informed and trained in it.
