What's worse?

Living trying to be a normal person even though such a simple goal is almost no where near achievable.

Or

A simple painless shot to the head to put one's self out of unbearable misery.

Hi @Abb123

I'm so sorry to hear that! But I am sure there is a way out, and a third option for you! Please let someone help you. There are people you can talk to, on the phone or on the Internet.

You can call 1-800-273-TALK (8255), or chat online here: suicidepreventionlifeline.org/chat/

You are not alone. There are people who suffer from depression here on Carenity, and who are trying to help and support each other as best as they can. Do not hesitate to ask for help.

Really hope you will be able to get through this crisis soon. Take care and do not hesitate to let me know if you need anything.

Courtney

Dear @Abb123

Please do not give up - no matter how distressed you are feeling.

I am 68 years young and have dealt with depression for more years than I care to think about.

Depression is horrible. Several times I have come very close to taking the second option you mentioned. There were times when the pain of depression was too much and I considered that option. There were also times when I simply did not care anymore and considered that option.

Fortunately, there were what I would call miracles when things and people unexpectedly intervened.

What has kept me going? Several things:

(1) Working on my spiritual life.

(2) Loving and caring people in my life.

(3) Therapy.

(4) Medication.

There have been bad times and good times. I have been mostly stable over the past couple of years. But, I also know this is something I will always need to work on - just like my diabetes.

Being “on the other side,” a couple of years ago a co-worker and friend took the second option. She was young and such a wonderful and loving person. That totally slammed me. As it turned out, the very night of the day I found out about her death I had a previously scheduled appointment with my therapist. Thank goodness for that.

Please know that there are people who love you - including me.

And, please do not worry about trying to be “normal.” That only exists in fairytales. Be yourself.

(By the way, as my friends would tell you, I am not “normal!” 😁)

I hope I have not rambled on too much.

Sending a big hug!

Doug

I'm taking 3 medications for depression and it's not working. I think of death every day. Nobody ever comes or calls unless they have nobody else. I am sad and lonely and I'm at my breaking point. I just needed to tell someone. Thank you for listening.

@Vanillalisam Hi, you are absolutely right, it is important to talk to others when you are not feeling well! Please do not hesitate to take a look around the discussion groups here and read others' posts: you will see that you are not alone!

Have you tried talking to your doctor about your meds? If the current ones do not work, he or she should be able to change them for you! Do not hesitate to let him/her know.

I also invite you to read @Doug_RVA 's comment above: he is giving some good advice there!

Do not forget that there are services you can turn to if you feel particularly lonely and depressed: you can call/text people who will listen and try to help you as best as they can. For example, you can text HOME to 741741 to reach a volunteer Crisis Counselor from Crisis Text Line. There is also Lifeline number you can call anytime: 1-800-273-8255.

Let us know how you are doing!

Take care,

Courtney

@Vanillalisam hi. Help is available!!! I've tried countless antidepressants, some better than others. I encourage u to find a counselor. No shame in that. Also, I have bad acid reflux. Finally my MD found 1 that works. Everyone is different. Not every med works for everybody. I jokingly call what I take my "cocktail of meds". Please don't give up! If nothing else, try a self help hotline. They're out there. 🤞🤞

Hi. Read your tale of woe. No, death not the answer. Been there, tried that. In long run, not worth it! Seek therapy. Or, just a trusted person. Yes, life has lots of pain. Just muddle thru best u can. Doesn't have to be perfect. Nothing on earth is. Find meaning in even a small tiny thing, worth comes. Really. Wishing u very best.
