I am new to this website, I think it is possible I have depression. I have many thoughts going on in my head all day and some days I think to myself that I just want to die. And sometimes I lay In bed numb. If something happens I completely break and shut down. I also have a lot of anxiety. For weeks I have cried and felt hopeless. I have no one to talk to about it, I tried speaking to a friend but he just didn’t understand. I wish I could speak to my family about it but I have been dismissed by then when it being brought up. One time I told my mom I have anxiety and I want to goto therapy and she said no and I don’t have anxiety. I am looked at as the normal one in my family. Even tho I am not and I have issues to. I find it weird that my parents act like this because my brother had had depression in the past and they helped him with it. My sister had had anxiety and got helped. And they both got therapy and are better now. I wish I could have the same. I have taken depression tests online and it says I have it but obviously those are not a diagnosis. I think I’m scared to talk to my parents about it because they could ignore it. But if they don’t ignore it and I get tested and it comes back negative I will feel like a food. If u read all of this thank you.

@Evamartin Hello Evamartin, thank you for starting this discussion. I'm so sorry to hear that you're not getting the help you need and that you feel like your family doesn't believe you. One of the hardest things about mental illness is that it's not visible on the outside, so often people just assume you're okay when you're really struggling. Please know that the Carenity community is here to support you! Let me tag some other members who can share their experience or advice with you.

Hello everyone, I hope you're doing well. How did you broach the topic of depression with your families? Did they believe you? What can Evamartin do to get the help and support she needs both from her family and from a mental health professional? Feel free to share here!

@Evamartin Hi Evamartin, I'm sorry you're going through that. If your brother and sister have been through depression and anxiety you'd think that your parents would recognize that it's maybe something you struggle with too. If you've already done tests online then you probably already know about this, but Mental Health America has some good resources and can maybe help you find some help in your area. If not a professional, maybe at least a support group or something. https://www.mhanational.org/

I think you said you'd asked your parents about therapy already, but have you talked to them seriously, like sat them down, and talked about the extent of your depression or what you're feeling?

From my personal experience, I myself did not know I had depression for a very long time until it became so bad that I started to experience anxiety attacks and severe isolation didn't even want to get out of bed so I went to see my Doctor who had me see a therapist whom I talked to and told him all I had gone through and was still dealing with.  With the help of my medical care team I was put on some antidepressant medicine some did not work as well as others but I finally was put on BUPROPION HCL  twice a day it helps me a lot and I got a bonus with this medicine I stopped smoking most people with depression don't look sad I always had a smile on my face and everyone around had no clue but if only they could see what I felt inside they would know and understand I needed help so whether they believe you or not seek medical attention for this issue that can hurt you immensely there are professionals that can help and medicine out there that can help you feel better.  We all deserve to feel and be happy.

@jasmine1092 Thank you so much for responding, but no I have not had a seriouse discussion yet. I am kinda scared to. Nothing bad will happen but I’m just not ready for them to be checking up on me every five seconds or feel like they have to walk on egg shells around me. And to admit to other people that I could possibly have a big problem.

Whenever you feel depressed the worst thing you can do is isolate that will only make things worse when you start to feel down the best thing to do is go and take a walk try to talk with somebody and be around positive people one thing besides the medicine that gives me great pleasure and the urge to keep going on is my two dogs get a pet and you will notice a big difference in your depression why I think because they (PETS) give you unconditional love and they give you everyday responsibility for example when I would be so depressed that I could not even get out of my bed I can't do that anymore why because my dogs need me to walk them they need me to feed them and to play with them so I must get out that bed for them. see how that works

if you have people you trust or that you know are there for you try to talk to them and see if they will be able to understand you. it's always important to reach out to someone.
