A few weeks ago I wrote about having to cancel my plans for thanksgiving due to chronic pain. But I am equally as frustrated by not being able to be spontaneous! When I was young, I can remember going out late night with my friends who would randomly just come by. We would go for ice cream and loiter in parking lots. Or I could take a call to drop by someone's house to meet their new dog.

All of those things have stopped. I have to plan my activities weeks in advance to make sure I'll have enough energy. I have to space things days apart. Two days in a row of an outing is essentially out of the question! That is also why missing a planned event is such a bummer- that means I will be essentially aways from my friends or having a real life for almost a whole week!

Lets not even talk about having sex- that also has to be planned, and even when it is. I am barely ever up for it and most of the planned nights get cancelled.

Is anyone else in chronic pain ever able to do spontaneous things? Is there a trick, cuz I'd love to know!

Hi @LizziB

I have stopped making plans. I commit to activities, my friends know that I want to come, so they will invite me to activities that a head-count is not required. But I do not plan events or invite people to do things in advance anymore. I've had to cancel too often.
