Hey there,

I have RA and nerve pain in my elbows and arms. It was a struggle to get over the mental hump of starting to exercise while constantly living in pain. But once I started going on daily walks, I noticed the pain in my knees and ankles got better. Now I'm interested in learning new exercises for my upper body (where it hurts the most). I'm assuming it will help the same way as it did for my lower body. Has anyone found exercises to help with elbows and arms that suffer from nerve damage?

Thank you

Hi @karm!nR

I like that you started with something manageable, like walking, and now you are ready to experiment with something else. I like to swim. You can move slowly, low impact. But I'm not sure how it will help with elbow pain.

Hi @karm!nR

How are you doing today?

Thank you for sharing your fitness journey here and looking for inspiration.

Let me see if anyone in the Chronic Pain forum has any suggestion for upper body workouts for someone living with nerve pain. I would also suggest that you go to a physical therapist or personal trainer. They may be the most qualified to tailor a workout to your needs.

Do you workout? What do you do? Has it helped with your pain? Do you have a trainer?

Let's share !

Take care,

Lizzi from the Carenity team

Unfortunately it doesn't work for me. Have tried several times and everything pain is worse and followed by days of extreme exhaustion.

I have Fibromylgia, Lupus, and other autoimmune diseases & co-exiting illnesses/conditions for 26 yrs now. I'm currently in severe pain from my lower back shooting pain into my buttock, upper legs, legs are weak & in pain. I get up very slowly, & am hunched over, then I creep upward to a standing position. Idk what I can do. I tried to send my Primary care Doctor a text/email & it rejected. ?? I can't function. Ugh!

I've had chronic back pain for a few years now. It was really tough to get motivated to exercise, but I knew I needed to find a way to manage the pain. Starting with gentle yoga and stretching exercises made a huge difference for me. These exercises helped increase my flexibility and reduce the tension in my back, which in turn, alleviated some of the pain.

Besides exercise, I found massage therapy to be the best back pain treatment for my situation. It helped release the deep-seated tension and improve my overall wellbeing, allowing me to be more active. Incorporating specific exercises that target the back, like gentle stretches and yoga poses, really helped in managing my pain and improving my quality of life.
