Hello,

Thank you for reading my message!

Father is 85, lives alone in India. Father used to have lower back pain decades ago. It was manageable for the most part. Last weekend, he felt back pain that started in his lower back and went all the way to the top part of the back. Below is the summary of the symptoms:

1) The pain is felt all along the spine and not on either side of the spine.

2)  The pain is felt more in the lower back and decreases as you go up the spine.

3) There is no tenderness in the back.

4) The pain was a 3/10. The pain is felt more in the lower back and starts to decrease in the mid to upper back.

5) He used gel and hot packs for relief, but the pain increased today (May 16, 2022) to a 4/10.

The pain is constant throughout the day and night. So far, he is able to do his daily activity without any issues. He has no other symptoms as yet. Father has arthritis in both his knees which so far has responded well to physiotherapy.

Father saw his Orthopedic doctor on Monday (May 16, 2022). Dr said he is not sure if the pain is muscle or bone pain and has given him a pain killer, muscle relaxant and a patch he needs to put on his back all day. If the pain does not subside in a week, an MRI will be done.  Dr said it's possible that the bone pain could be multiple myeloma.

The Primary Care Physician did the following blood tests on March 17, 2022 (done every 6 months):

Fasting Glucose, Estimated Average Glucose, HBA1C, Non-fasting Glucose, Serum Creatinine, Liver Function Tests, Lipid profile, Electrolytes, PSA, Routine Urine Analysis

The abnormal tests results from the above tests are as below:

CBC:

RBC Count 4.31 # million/cu.mm [4.50-6.50]

Haemoglobin 13.8 # g/dl [14.0-18.0]

MCV 96.6 # fl [80.0-96.0]

Eosinophils 13.0 # % [0.0-7.0]

Serum Creatinine : 0.68 # mg/dl [0.80-1.60]

Lipid Profile:

LDL- CHOLESTEROL 103 # mg/dl [<100]

Routine Urine Analysis:

Calcium oxalate - 2-4/hpf.

Father feels a bit better today compared to yesterday. No other symptoms. The last time calcium was measured was in Feb 2021 and it was 9.1 mg/dl [8.0-10.5]. What concerns me is that father's back pain is always present throughout the day and night, and it seems like bone pain rather than muscle.

Father is 5 ft 3, 124 lbs. and a 36 inches waist. He eats a healthy vegetarian diet and uses the exercise bike twice a day for at least 30 minutes each and does his daily physical therapy classes for shoulder pain and heel pain for about 45 minutes, twice a day.

Question:

Is it highly liked that my father has Multiple Myeloma?

Thank you,

Zent

I am 69 and have similar conditions and was told it was arthritis in the spine after x-rays.
