Hello everyone,

How are you today?

I'm curious to hear if anyone else has experienced being treated for two unrelated cancers at the same time. It's a unique and challenging situation, but it's possible to overcome it.

If you've been through this experience or know someone who has, please share your story. How did you manage the treatments, and what were the biggest challenges faced?

Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Please take care,

Somya from the Carenity team 🌼

I think I’m the one who posed this question originally and I don’t see anyone responding so I’ll explain why I asked. On 8/07/2023 after a bone marrow biopsy, it was determined I had a very rare type of leukemia called APL. At the time I was hospitalized, rapidly declining, and very fortunate to have been diagnosed and in a place where I could immediately begin the right treatment or I would have died. That very day I was supposed to have had a breast biopsy because I’d had an abnormal mammogram with two very suspicious areas. That biopsy then couldn’t happen until October. It came back positive for breast cancer. Since then I’ve had to go through months of chemotherapy for the leukemia and several surgeries for the breast cancer followed by radiation. I’ve had pretty much every side effects and complication there is but am now cancer free. I’ve never met anyone who had two unrelated cancers at the same time. I know people who have cancer that metastasized, but that’s not what happened to me. Have any of you ever heard of this? My doctors say it’s pretty rare. Luckily.

@DianneKlein I think I do now. I have a Brain Tumor. I just finished first round of radiation and chemo. I get another MRI later this month. I was previously found to also have MGUS which has caused me to be mildly anaemic and can lead to Multiple Myeloma ( but so far doesn't appear to be doing so)
