My 83 year old Mom has metastatic breast cancer. (lymph nodes and bones.). She was diagnosed 1 1/2 years ago and seemed to be doing well until last month. She was taking tykerb but it didn’t work and the Dr started chemo four weeks ago. I have custody of three grandchildren and we have moved in with her to help care for her. Chemo is wiping her out. Does it get better or is it the end?  Due to covid, I’m not allowed to go into the office to speak to the dr. I’m just at a loss of what’s going on. I’m just trying to get an idea of what to prepare for.  I’m clueless

Good advisor

Hello @divemdeb‍, thank you for opening this discussion and sharing what you've been going through with your mom. That must be so hard to watch your mom go through that, and not being able to be fully in the loop on her treatment must be so stressful. Let me tag some other members who can possibly share their thoughts with you.

Hello everyone, how are you doing? Have any of you or your loved ones gone through metastatic breast cancer? Can you share any insights on what it's like or what to expect? Do you have any advice or words of support?

Good advisor

@divemdeb Oh no, I'm so sorry about your mom. Breast cancer is hard enough when your middle aged, I can't imagine the strength it takes in your 80's. I'm going through a recurrence and it's not metastatic so I can't share any advice on that front, but make sure you're taking care of yourself as well as your mom. I watched my mom be the primary caregiver for my grandma growing up and I know it was hard. I'm surprised the doctors wouldn't let you in accompanying your mom given her age. And I guess they won't speak to you over the phone because of HIPAA?

She signed a hippa release to speak to me but they don’t call me back.
