Hello,

I had a burn out when I was 30 followed by depression. I was treated with antidepressants and sleeping pills. Since then, I've had regular relapses every year and a half or so. I keep relapsing into depression and I quit my job. This has been going on for 8 years.

It's work that makes me relapse every time.

I don't really know how to get out of it and live a normal life.

Hi @Worsebuthopefull

I am sorry to hear about your relapsing cycle. If you don't already, I encourage you to speak about this with a professional. They may be the best suited to identify patterns and may be able to suggest a plan to help you break this cycle.

Some other things to consider would be what aspects of your job you do and do not like. Then perhaps finding a profession that encompasses more element of what you do like and less of those aspects that are less desirable.

Let me tag a few other members, they may also have some tips that have helped them in the past.

How do you manage depression and work? How do you maintain a balance? What advice can you give to @Worsebuthopefull?

Take care,

Lizzi from the Carenity team

@LizziB I reached the point that I could no longer handle my depression and work. I found myself fighting back tears nearly every day, by the time afternoon rolled around I was like a walking zombie, I was unable to focus on anything, coworkers would talk to me and I had no idea what they were saying, I was working in a day care center as an infant teacher and what was happening with me made me realize this was not good for me but more importantly was not good for the babies that were in my care, as much as I loved my babies I knew I could no longer keep working, I went on family leave for 3 months and during that time I filed for disability. As the end of my 3 months of leave time was nearing I met with the director of the day care center and let her know I would not be returning, she was not surprised and in fact respected and appreciated my being honest with her. It took a good deal of time but my disability was approved. I am not saying this a route others should take, but I do say you have to do what you know is best for you and for your health.
