Hi everyone! How are things going lately?

Living with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) means dealing with chronic pain, stiffness, and fatigue that can interfere with daily activities most people take for granted. Each person’s experience is different, but many of us face moments where the condition makes ordinary tasks feel overwhelming.

This space is here for you to speak openly about the toughest parts of your routine.

  •  Which part of daily life do you find most difficult to manage because of AS?
  • Have you found any practical tips or workarounds that help you adapt?
  • Was there a turning point when something finally clicked in how you manage your condition?

One of the biggest difficulties is chronic pain, especially in the lower back and hips. Morning stiffness can be particularly intense, sometimes lasting for hours and making simple movements like getting out of bed or bending over difficult.

It's comforting to see this discussion. I was diagnosed with AS five years ago, and the toughest part for me is definitely the morning stiffness. It's like my body is encased in concrete. Just getting out of bed can be a monumental effort, and the pain radiates throughout my back and hips. Simple things like bending over to tie my shoes or reaching for a cup in the cupboard become agonizing. Finding ways to distract myself during these flare-ups helps.

The morning stiffness is definitely what pushes me the most; it’s so hard to get moving when your back feels like lead. I’ve found that a bit of light stretching and a hot shower really help me start my day on the right foot!
