@Somya.P throughout my two battles with breast cancer and my pancreatic cancer, I have been blessed to receive the best of doctors and their medical staff, and every test under the sun.

I have in all my adult years had negative experiences with Healthcare providers just once that really affected me. Each time was the same Dr. I won't say the name or the practice name out of respect but I will never go back there and definitely would not recommend them.

One time, so far. While I was in the hospital for a bowel obstruction surgery, an on call doctor that was not my doctor, told me, in front of my mom and husband, that I needed to plan my end of care since I will definitely have more bowel obstructions. He then told me what my surgeon said was possible was not. I was blown away. My mom and my husband both got very upset. He asked me if I had any questions and I told him that I was a little thrown off since I was really feeling much better and he was telling to plan for death. It bothered me, but not as much as my mom, who is a retired nurse. I just didn't pay any attention to him after that. Thankfully, I only had to see him three times.

Hi everyone,
How are you feeling today?
This seems like an important discussion. Feeling judged or dismissed by healthcare professionals can leave a lasting mark, not just on our trust in the system, but on our emotional well-being too. I remember someone once shared that after being waved off during an appointment, they didn’t go back to a doctor for nearly a year… even though their symptoms were getting worse. That hesitation, that doubt, it can stay with you.
So let’s keep this conversation going—because it matters.

Have you ever felt brushed off or treated differently by a healthcare provider because of your condition or background? What did you do next? And if you’ve had a really compassionate doctor or nurse, what made that experience different?
I’d love to hear more about what you all think!
Take care,
Somya from the Carenity team 🌼

Oh yes! Years ago, I went through a rough decade being married to an abusive, alcoholic control freak, AND having seven children. I have to admit I'll bet I seemed a little "crazy" for a time until I filed for divorce and left. But now, all of that, which was recorded in my permanent electronic health record, is viewable by ANY HCPs I may see in and out of our health system! All they can see when they read my record is "nutcase"! But since that time, I've turned my WHOLE life into something much different, and I matured a LOT. These HCPs are unable to see past the history, though, and treat me very poorly. I'm about done with pursuing any health care at all!

Oh yes. Very much so. When my arthritis made it difficult for me to walk, I went to the doctor and she got it into her head that I must be imagining it or something because all she offered me was anti-depressants. For five years that's all she would do. No x-rays, no orthopedic referral. Then I was forced to go to a behavioral therapist. I went and told her what I was going through. She met with my doctor and told them that they needed to listen to me. So I finally got x-rays and a referral to an orthopedist.
Now, I am going through the same thing with a couple of my specialists. They see me once or twice a year but the judgements come and they don't know my real story. Nor do they want to know. One look at me and that's it. They believe that they've figured me out and honestly, they know nothing. No, not all my doctors. I have some that are terrific. But yes, I do feel judged by the others.

Hello everyone,
I hope this post finds you in good spirits. 😊
An aspect that can deeply affect our experiences in our unique health journeys is the level of understanding, compassion, and respect we receive from healthcare professionals.
Unfortunately, not all interactions are positive, and some of us may have faced misunderstandings, biases, or even discrimination during our medical care. These experiences can range from feeling like our symptoms are not taken seriously, to encountering blatant stigma or bias based on our condition, age, sex, ethnicity, religion, race, socioeconomic status, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
Have you ever felt misunderstood, judged, or unfairly treated by doctors or other healthcare providers because of your chronic condition? How did this impact your well-being? And importantly, how did you navigate these challenges, and do you have any advice for fellow patients who might be experiencing similar situations?
Please feel free to share your thoughts and stories. Remember, this is a safe and supportive space for all of us to speak openly and honestly. Your experiences, both positive and negative, are valuable and can help offer support and guidance to others.
Warm regards,
Somya from the Carenity team 🌼
