Having several chronic conditions I have to be responsible for my own health and treatments. Doctors do not always have the answers and quite often treat with their norms that do not fit all. Medical insurance companies are just as lacking in common sense. Sometimes one will wait for days, weeks or months for insurance approvals for necessary procedures. The only "guilt" that I feel regarding any health related issues revolve around being a former smoker. Not able to turn the clock back, I accept that. Regarding the blame, it falls directly on the healthcare system and the AMA. Doctors are trained to treat by selling for the pharmaceutical companies and the medical insurance companies are set up to make profits off our illnesses.

@Gordon Hi,
Thank you for sharing your perspective — it’s clear you’ve thought a lot about the challenges of navigating chronic conditions. You’re right, managing your own health often requires taking responsibility, especially when the system doesn’t always align with individual needs. It’s frustrating when bureaucracy or profit motives interfere with timely care.
How do you usually manage when there are delays or disagreements with doctors or insurance? Have you found any strategies that help you advocate for yourself effectively? And for others reading, what’s your experience navigating these challenges?
Take care,
Somya from The Carenity Team

Many people wonder whether certain lifestyle choices, diets, or habits can aggravate a chronic illness. But is it fair to blame patients?
