Hello everyone,

How are you doing?

The debate around medical cannabis has shifted dramatically in the past several years, with more states legalizing its use for pain management and other medical purposes. 🌿 For chronic illness patients, it serves as a potential alternative to traditional pain relievers, particularly opioids, which come with significant risks of addiction and side effects. However, the situation is still quite complicated, as the legality of medical cannabis varies from state to state.

In states where medical cannabis is legal, many patients have found relief from chronic pain with cannabis-based treatments, often seeing fewer side effects compared to opioids. Some believe that cannabis could serve as a long-term solution to managing their pain. However, not everyone agrees. There are concerns about the lack of large-scale, long-term studies, potential side effects, and the fact that cannabis is still classified as a Schedule I drug at the federal level, making research and access more challenging. In states where medical cannabis is still illegal, patients may feel stuck, reliant on opioids or other painkillers, despite wanting to try more natural options.

Have you tried medical cannabis for pain management? Do you think it could replace traditional methods like opioids? How does the legality in your state impact your treatment options?

There are studies that prove this product helps ease nausea. I often feel dizzy and nauseous from my medications and my conditions.

@Somya.P I have found that many healthcare workers do actually believe in edibles and or CBD’s. Unbelievable but up until the subject of pain that I have endured lifelong, the compounds have come up in multiple conversations. I am a strong believer in self-help and don’t require substances to live life. It just so happens that i have embraced: coldness, darkness, loneliness, pain, and suffering as my friends a long, long, time ago. I did stay in the hospital for half of my first 7 years of life. I remember the first time was when I was like 10 months old. Pain is nothing new to me! I can take it!

While cannabis can help relieve some pain, it CANNOT be expected to replace opioids, which are VERY safe, when used properly.. Cannabis in the form of CBD is a placebo, and in the form of THC, causes psychoactive side effects (the "high"). I can function, drive, think, etc. with my legally prescribed opioid medication; with cannabis, I cannot do any of the above. I cannot afford to be "high" all of the time, but I also can't afford to be in severe pain all of the time. I DO NOT have mild, moderate, or intermittent pain. I have severe chronic secondary pain 24/7/365/, and sometimes it gets even worse. I wish with all my heart that I had a GOOD, reliable source of pain relief 😮‍💨

Hello @PokerFaceJess,

Thank you for your honest perspective. I'm really sorry to hear about your chronic pain, and it’s understandable that you rely on opioids for consistent relief especially with needing to stay functional and active in daily life. Have you found anything to help manage side effects?
