Hi @achy38
How are you doing today?
This is a great discussion question. I think taking care of a pet is a great idea to keep you active and to make you happy! Not all dog have the same energy, it might be even worth while to look into older dogs who may be a little slower and more manageable. I'll tag a few other members who can tell you if they have been able to manage a pet with their RA.

Do you have a dog? How is it with walking your dog twice a day with your RA? Is it very challenging?

@LizziB I’ve got Fibromyalgia. My 2 dogs (Chelsea & Gracie) cuddle with me & follow me all over the house. They make me feel calm, safe, & loved. It is hard on my bad flare up days to walk Chelsea 3-4 times a day in our front yard. It’s harder on my body to take care of my 16 yrs old son though. He’s autistic, nonverbal, extremely hyperactive, & still in diapers. I’m on Lyrica & Neurontin which helps to make the pain not as severe.

I love LOVE dogs, and have been thinking about getting one for awhile (we had a 2 dogs growing up ), and lately I've been reading up on how pets can release endorphins and such, keep you feelingh happy to lessen the pain a little and bring comfort. I live alone, so maybe a dog could help with the loneliness but that is also the problem. I don't know how well I can take care of a dog with the constant pain I'm in, and going for walk and physical activity would for sure be difficult in my current state, with all the constant fatigue from my RA. I really want a dog for my mood and the loneliness but I dont want to bring misery to an innocent because of my condition, it really wouldn't be fair. What are you guys's experinces? Thank you so much
