How to help patients become more independent in managing lupus?

Improving a therapeutic education program

It is never easy to learn to manage a chronic illness, and it is still more complicated when the illness is rare. Such is the case with lupus. Discover the disease, accept it, understand it and become autonomous – this is the pathway that all patients wish for, and this is the reason why Dr Laurent Chiche, an internist and a lupus specialist, developed a therapeutic education program for patients (ETP), which focuses on information, learning, psychological and social assistance and care. In order to make the program more useful, members of Carenity’s Lupus community shared their concerns regarding treatments, symptoms, fatigue, joint pain, etc.

Thanks to their responses, a therapeutic education program consisting of eight sessions (understanding the disease, flare-ups, treatments, etc.) was launched and was labelled by the Regional Health Agency of the PACA region in France.
