Hi @Bill_D,
Thank you for laying this out so clearly. Skin sensitivities like yours can be incredibly disruptive, especially when they develop suddenly and affect something as basic and constant as clothing. It’s one thing to avoid scented detergents, but quite another when even so-called “100% cotton” starts triggering reactions. The frustrating added cost of finding fabrics that are truly safe, especially for everyday wear, is something we don’t talk about enough.
To open this up to other members:
Have you experienced skin allergies related to clothing or fabric blends?
Have you found brands, retailers, or even fabric types that work well for sensitive skin?
How do you balance skin comfort with the cost of replacing your wardrobe?

I was diagnosed with a couple fairly mundane allergies about 18 months ago, after, seemingly overnight, developing rashes and hives for no apparent reason and having never before experienced a single symptom or reaction. After initially discovering the usual culprits, laundry detergent, fabric softener, dryer sheets, etc., sensitivities to fabrics have entered the scene with aggression, I moved to 100% cotton shirts which worked for a while, but, now, I find that 100% cotton is not what we all once thought it is; thus, I have continued my migration toward 100% organic cotton. For those who have been down this path, even a minimalistic wardrobe comprised of only 100% organic cotton shirts is insanely and frighteningly expensive - Imagine buying sweatshirts for painting and working around the house that begin at around $100 each. It seems that I am stuck with the allergies and sensitivities, so I am looking for help with where people with similar afflictions and responses find clothes.
