Hi @Thakera
How are you today?
This is a great general discussion question that I think many others have considered themselves. Everyone has a limited time on earth, some get told about it from a doctor, others experience it from an unexpected accident, but knowing this does it change how you perceive life?
Would you rather know your estimated life expectancy or not? Would it give you more stress? Would it change the way you live? What are your thoughts on the topic?
I'll tag a few other members to get the conversation started.

@LizziB I was in the Boy Scouts of America. One of, if not the first motto, is 'Be Prepared. I'd like to get my responsibilities in order so they don't become someone else's.

@LizziB yes I do want to know my life expectancy so I can adequately plan even though it upsets me. I have 3-5 years according to the studies and take Ofev to
slow down the progression I’m considering a a Lung transplant but it is a difficult decision. There are many factors to consider.

I agree. I believe deeply that humans were never meant to know their expected time of death. Even from a religious standpoint, I don’t believe God intended. Try it is the moral obligation of the medical community to do this. And yet, the hypocratic oath states “first do no harm”. It’s a mad world and it’s rapidly leaving me in the dust. I want off this ride. Never wanted to be on it.

@gloriawilson.nutrition keep your faith. I lost mine in College after reading all the horrible things religion has done and continue to do so in the name of God. A God as we were taught would never let such terrible things to happen.

Life expectancy is one thing, living life by doing the best you can with what you have is another. If I go by the life expectancy as shown on my maternal side, I should have been dead by age 78 but I'm still alive and doing very well at age 81. If I go by the life expectancy on my paternal side, I still have at least 12 years left before I die. So, I choose to do the best I can with what I have and the only thing I wish for is that I won't have to endure a painful illness and/or a painful death.

In order to deal with any anxiety during sob episodes, I try to focus on an object while concentrating on deep breathing exercises until it's under control. Works well for me. I'm a firm believer in no more meds than absolutely necessary.

I truly believe it is not a good idea to know life expectancy because it could add to my already stress (anxiety) feeling I carry 24/7. Each day I try to be happy.
