Anyone else having a difficult time managing side effects for cancer treatments?

I'm post single mastectomy stage 1 breast cancer. I been having one he'll of a time managing these awful side effects from, arimidex to exemestane and femara. Migraines, tendonitis, muscle spasms, joint pain, edema, nausea. My oncologist acts like this treatment is not a big deal and I'm one of the rare people who cannot tolerate these treatments. Anyonelse? I feel alone.

Hi @GinaNewOrleans‍! Sorry you are going through this but know you are a fighter and glad you caught this early!

NO! Absolutely not... no treatment for cancer is "no big deal." Unfortunatley, most doctors do not know what the medications and the cancer does to our body really because they are not going through with it.

Is your doctor at least receptive to what you feeling?

Joint and muscle pain is super common as well as horrible headaches.

@sara_at32 hi sara my doctor treats me the same way,i feel like a walmart customer,he gets me in and gets me out he really doesnt listen to what i say.

No, he acts like I'm the "rare" percentage that's experiencing this.My primary care doc treats me medicinally for the side effects UgghhThanks for responding to my post ♡

@GinaNewOrleans‍ you are not alone. I never had edema, but every body reacts differently; I am sorry your doctor is not understanding. The joint pain is definitely a common side-effect from my experience.

Ar you satisfied elsewise by your oncologist? Do you live in a big city?

How is your primary care treating the side-effects? effectively?

@GinaNewOrleans‍ I am sorry that your doctor is treating you as such. I hope it is some sense of calming calming knowing you are not the only one.

@sara_at32 i also developed 3 blood clots 1 in each leg and one in groin area,had my stomach cut open a total of 3 times due to bad connections in intestines.during radiation treatments i was over radiated spent 5 days and nights in burn center.this has been one nitemare after another the depression and thoughts of what ive been through is overwhelming.i seriously need some kind of counseling,cant find any

I stopped taking it after month and half... It was awful...It threw me into the worst depression!!! Could not take it anymore!! Still trying to get back to myself. Stopped it about 2 months ago...You are not alone!!!

@diannemc I just stopped taking it. The side effects were awful. I can’t believe they can’t come up with something natural. I’m fighting this I want to live but I want quality of life. One of the questions I was told to ask my oncologist was would you give this to your mom? I bet they say no.

I just began taking Letrozole!!!! Hoping and praying for minimal tomorrow side effects!!!! 💕💕💕

@fhulsey I recently started on Letrozole (about a month ago). I'd be interested in knowing if you've been having side effects.

I stopped taking Arimidex a few months ago. I still have joint pain that on the 1-10 pain scale is a 12...exacerbated by rainy weather. I took AIs with my first breast cancer occurrence in 2008. It still came back in 2015 so when my quality of life was going down, I stopped. Does anyone else still have joint pain after they stop taking them? Thank you in advance.

I had all the side effects and I thought I was alone in this. Had to stop taking it. I’m on Tamoxifen but can only take it every other day. Doing better on it

I completely understand as I don’t have anyone to talk to also. I’m a widow & I live alone. My oldest son died in 2021 & my youngest son & his family live 3 hours. My father is dead & my mother has chronic back pain & is immobile. My younger sister lives with our mother & she is going through a divorce from her husband who abandoned her. My sister doesn’t visit me, help me, call me & rarely texts me. I have various cousins, a niece & nephew that are spread out in nearby states but are hours away from me. After I told my friends I had cancer, they quit contacting me. I have learned how to be my own care giver. It has been very difficult. I’ll admit I’ve been depressed, cried a lot, felt sorry for myself but I never gave up. I prayed & read my Bible everyday. Then I found cancer groups online like this one where I could share what I was going through & got empathetic responses. That really kept me going. I hope you find someone to talk to but I highly recommend the online cancer chat groups.
